Screensaver Not Working in Windows XP Pro

For some reason my screen saver will not come on, nor will my sleep function work after being idle for the designated amount of time. I've went in to the Display Properties, screen saver and the screen saver is supposed to start after waiting for 3 minutes. Can anyone tell me why the screen saver and sleep function used to work, but now NEVER comes on. Is there anything I can do to get it to come on at the designated time?
Thanks

Hypersensitive mouse, perhaps?

I know if my stereo's up, my screen won't blank during certain songs because the low-end bass shakes the desk hard enough to wake up the optical.

As strange as it may seem, I also thought of that! I do have an optical mouse and keyboard but when I have nothing running and nobody is in the room, as long as the computer is on, the screen saver or sleep mode will not kick in. I was told I may need to insert the reinstallation CD and start from there. That seems a little harsh for me.

You may have some sort of driver installed that's breaking sleep mode. Screensaver wise, I'm a little stumped. 😕
