Screen winks sometimes, bad video card?

I've got an ASUS Geforce 4-Ti4200 and I noticed once in a while while browsing the internet, the screen will wink black for a second and then return. The fan on it quit working but I've got a case fan blowing on it constantly now, on the heat sink. I still saw the screen wink out a few times this evening. The heat sink on the video card doesn't feel hot like it was when I first notice the dead fan. Ideas? Thoughts? Still not cool enough? Something compromised? Don't want to have to spend $$ on a new video card right now. Hmm

I've been seeing almost exactly the same problem, only it's more serious and makes less sense. I have an Albatron GeForce 4 Ti4200 w/128 MB and an Epox EP-8RDA+, and I started seeing the blinking issue while surfing the web some months after I built the system. All my fans still work, though. Eventually the problem led to system instability and frequent application crashes. I just reinstalled XP and immediately after installing either the chipset drivers or the display drivers, I start getting visual artifacts: off-color pixels, mostly.

Wish I had a solution to offer. Nothing I've tried has worked.

hmm,

Well, I've also noticed that when booting up there are blocks missing from the DOS style screens, like it's all broken up. That is another indication that the display card is having problems.

Also, I recently have tried running Neverwinter Nights, and there were wierd display issues with it too.

Well, that is two bad experiences I've had with NEWEGG refurbs. The first card arrived DOA, and now the 2nd card isd going bad with in a couple months buying it. Guess I'm sticking with new cards from now on. Probably going with a Radeon 9600 since I want comparable performance but don't want to spend alot. Nice to have DX9 capabilities too.
