Hello,
I'm new here nice to met ya. I have an old emachine 333cs. I upgraded the memory to 256 low density sdram, the cpu to amd k6 2+ at 601mhz the hard drive to a 20.4 gig 7200 udma western and finally the power from a really crappy 145 watt mini atx to a full sized antec 350 watt. I had to modify the case by cutting pieces out with a jig saw them welding in some new metal. It fits perfectly and of cousre I removed everything during this process. When I first started up all the new stuff windows was unstable, very unstable. I increased power to the cpu from 2.1 to 2.2 volts and it sabilized;however, the screen has these waves running through it now. Another thing, the new power supply came with the exhast fan blowing in and I had to turn it around. I'm using the onboard agp rage IIc. Everyone has suggested changing for the onboard video is notoriously problematic and a ram sucker. I have the correct driver for the monitor. Perhaps I should tweak the cpu volts somemore? Any suggestions would be appreciated. It's an amd k6 2+ 550, yet is rated at 450-600 and 2.0v-2.2v. They say the last generation of k6 2+ 18 micron made are all 600, just stamped, labeled differently. That is too say, a 450 is actually also a 550 just labeled 450. anhow, thses waves give me a headache. Thanks.
2 hours later- fixed it. I set the refresh rate from optimal to adapter default. Almost perfect disply now. Just some tiny waves at inserted pictures.
