Hi guys,

I recently get random black screens and afterwhile I get the message "display driver stopped responding & has recovered".
I renewed my OS (win7 Ultimate 64bit), because of trash and this issue but the problem remain.
Last crash was while using my emailclient and thunderbird left this message:

I've been getting this a LOT lately too. This was after upgrade from drivers in the 270's (not sure which one) to the latest 285.79 Beta, then still happening when reverting to the 285.62 WHQL's. This is on Win 7 Pro 64-bit, GTX 460.

Only seems to happen to me when I'm using Firefox.

I've been having the same thing happen lately, both with my laptop with a 230M and Win 7 x64, and with my work laptop which has SLI 8700M cards and runs Vista 32 bit. Drivers on both are OEM, so at least a year old... Could it be some OS patch?

toyota: my bad but I changed it today 😳

Maybe my reaction is a little late, but I had some issues with a lighting strike in my house.
After a repair from my PC I went from a Asus P8P67Pro to a Deluxe mobo and the problems with the black screen where still there.
So I removed everything that was Nvidia related in the software configuration and installed the driver that Windows 7 selected: 275.33.

Since I use this driver all my problems are gone. I can't say bad things about the driver because all my games still running smooth and no issues no more.

Black screen is synonymous with nVidia.

Funny that.

I'm trying to troubleshoot my friend's computer, he has been having "black screen freezes", that require pressing RESET on his computer. He has an AMD Athlon II X4 630, in an AMD-chipset (either 780G or 785G) motherboard, using the onboard video.

He already has had trouble with the Flash Player HW acceleration not working right (blocky/bad images) on his hardware.

I think perhaps his chipset is damaged somehow, but he's never really had anything overclocked.

Interesting, it happened to me twice this week, both time gaming. Screen went black and got same message you did. I have a xfx 6870 2GB card and am running i-5 2500K, win-64 home premium.

I had it happen on a new build. a 2500k cpu an intel extreme mobo and a
fanless video card a sapphire radeon hd6670.

It happened watching netflix and watching a dvd.

one time I needed to cold boot to fix it. other time I hit some keys and it came back like it was a screen saver or power saver .

I am overclocked at 4.1ghz but systems runs cool . I do not get this problem on my apple gear while running windows 7 64 bit premium via vm ware .
