Screen resolutions and gaming

So I finally Windows to display correctly (mostly) using a DVI cable from my 9700 Pro to a Sony Widescreen HDTV with alot of help from Powerstrip. Now my problem is whenever I kick off a game, my display goes blank. I"m assuming that it is becuase the game is trying to run at a "non-supported" resolution..or a rez that my display cannot handle. Basically, unless my horizontal lines are 480, 540, 720, or 1080, I haven't been able to get Windows to display on the TV. Most games will give you a choice of 800x600, 1024x768, or 1600x1200...none work for me.
any way to get around this???? How do I get games to display using my windows rez as the default?

You have to edit the timings for 800x600, 1024x768, and 1600x1200 in Powerstrip to be compatible with HDTV timings. Then you'll be able to view those resolutions on your TV.
