Hi,

I've heard that the lower your screen resolution, the more strain it puts on the CPU vs the GPU.. Is this correct?

For an example, I played COH last night at 10x7 with everything on medium, would I get better frames if i put it at a higher res and turn everything to low..?

System:
P4 2.4
6800GT
2gb DDR400

(yes.. I know my system sucks and is outdated.. but I'd rather buy ski equipment for my wife... ;) )

Low resolution just limits the impact to the GPU. So if you wanted to see what the difference between CPU speeds were, you would run the app at a low resolution so you are not bound by the GPU.

Hopefully that reads better to you than it does to me right now.

Not really more strain on the CPU, but less strain on your GPU so you see the limits of your CPU instead of the limits of your GPU.

Yes, you are correct about the first part. The more appropriate way to put it is "decreasing the resolution puts less stress on the video card." But if you turn the settings to low, that will also put less stress on the video card, and maybe the cpu to some extent, depending on what those settings do. So, it's hard to tell what will be more stressful - the resolution or the other settings.
