I have ran into to a problem and exhausted all my resources and still cant solve this nagging problem. I was messing around with the screen resolution on the computer at work and I set the resolution to some random value (dont remember what it was) and the screen went black and a white box appeared in the middle stating something to the effect of "invalid input". From this point I tried rebooting and several other things but this black screen came up everytime. So I rebooted the computer in safe mode and set the screen resolution to 640 x 480 which changed the color quality to 16 bit. Now I am able to boot it up normally and everything works except for everytime I try to go to a different screen resolution or a different color quality the same black screen appears and I have to iterate through the entire process again. I have solved this problem in XP but this computer is running Win 98SE and there is no restore function or revert to previous setting like XP has. I have tried everything including updating drivers but I cant figure out how to fix this problem. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Do you have a newer monitor to test against that you can be certain handles higher resolutions and color? I'm not saying that it's the monitor's fault, it would just be a good way to rule it out.

I checked around the store today and couldnt find a spare monitor, but I may borrow one from another computer. I just read over the original message and forgot to mention that since the color quality is set to 16 bit all the colors are screwed up and the icons are also very large. So its not just that I am wanting a different resolution, I just want icons that looks proportional to the monitor. Thanks for the thought I will try that out asap.
