Screen resolution auto-adjusted???

In the past I've had to re-install my operating system from scratch. In other words, I wiped out the hard drive, created new partitions, and then installed the OS.

After installing all drivers (video card), I would always have to reset my screen resolution and refresh rates.

But this time, after installing the graphics card drivers, upon rebooting, the screen came up to my previous setting. Same resolution and same refresh rate.

Can someone explain how this happened. Especially since I wiped out my hard drive to begin with.

Does my video card have some type of memory that remembers previous resolution settings?

Thanks again.

Yep, it also remembers you being rude to it last time and not cleaning the dust from its cooler when it asked you to.

It is probably maximum supported by you card/monitor - all newer nVidia/ATI drivers are using it as a default now in Microsoft systems.

OP is lucky: Vista installed the correct video card drivers for me, but insists on running my monitor at 1280x1024 after every reboot, despite the fact that it's a 22"ws 1680x1050 - I have to use CCC to redetect the monitor every new session so that I can select 1680x1050. :(

That doesnt seem right. Is this a fresh install of Vista? Or an upgrade over XP?

Thanks for the responses. Reinstalled Vista again today but resolution setting wasn't kept this time. Not sure what to make of it.
