Screen refreshes slower with new card

When I built this i7 computer last year (in my sig below), I originally used my GTX8800 Overclocked PCIe card. The computer ran great for a long time. But a couple months back, I decided to use that video card in another computer on the LAN. I figured it would give me a great chance to upgrade to a more modern video card for my main PC here.

I got the GTX 460 card & installed Nvidia's latest drivers for Windows7. Now though, when I scroll down on web pages, or read PDF files the screen lags. There's no longer a smooth scrolling; it scrolls in steps, so to speak.

There are no other real indications this video card is not working correctly so I'm wondering if this is the way the new drivers work? Using EVGA Precision and changing Core Clock speed to 800 from 720 has absolutely no effect on this.

When I don't have drivers installed, I get exactly what you speak. It's been the same for every card I've used...

Sounds like a driver issue. Do a full uninstall with driver sweeper and reinstall IMO.

Genome, you are def. correct, however I have noticed that since Win 7 launched, Windows seems to install some kind of basic driver that allows you to view web pages etc. without lag.

Back in XP, everything was choppy until you installed a driver from Nvidia or ATI.com.

Now obviously a game isnt going to run (maybe barely) on these basic drivers, maybe someone else can comment who knows more about this.

Yea but why didn't this problem exist when I first built the machine, using my old GT8800 card? It only started after I 'upgraded' my video to the new lineup.

One more thing, FYI the rez that I'm working on is only 1280x1024 on a pair of 19" flat panels. Nothing like the high resolutions that some of you guys are using.
