Screen Protectors...

I recently got a new LG phone (Optimus) and am trying to find a good screen protector. They threw in some basic screen protectors (Writeright?) I find them to be a pain in the ass to apply properly. I went through 3 before realizing I was getting nowhere. A piece of dust getting stuck to the 'sticky' side creating an impossible to remove air bubble. And of course the dust sitting their taunting me, impossible to remove.

Any recommendations on what kind of screen protector I should be getting that doesn't require a Class 5 clean room to apply?

I think they all pretty much do, big reason why I hate them. They make even the most beautiful screens look like crap.

On my gorilla glass Droid 1, a screen protector isn't necessary. Not sure if the various devices on the Optimus brand use plastic, glass, or gorilla glass though. If its a plastic screen, get the screen protector. The layer of annoying dust is less annoying than the scratches that will happen on the plastic screen.

I just bought a 3-pack for a few bucks off of Ebay. They all get scratched up after time so might as well get 'em cheap.

I think yours is a capacitive touch as is my Samsung Focus. I don't see much of a need for a screen protector as did the LG Incite I had which really required a stylus to work with ... PITA.

BUT, I have been thinking about a screen protector versus cell phone insurance ... if it gets messed up, just replace it. I also like to carry the cell in my jeans pocket & wonder how a screen protector will stay on AND does protection reduce sensitivity as it does in other applications?:whiste:

I just bought some universal dry-apply ones and cut my own. It's not perfect or beautiful, but good enough and certainly better than a scratched screen. The optimus screen feels more plasticky than my Pre did...and that thing already scratched pretty easily.

Check out this thread and try some of the suggestions. Also, I know that BestBuy sells a custom fit protector and will apply it for you for a fee. Expensive as hell compared to ebay though.

FWIW, I haven't noticed any adverse effects with my crappy protector. I can't imagine a nice custom fit protector would do worse.

Just bought the wife an evo, and bought her a zagg screen protector. I've had them on other phones and are very happy with them. If you buy them at best buy, they will apply them, for a fee, but worth it cuz they can do it w/out too many issues...

People pay BB to stick a piece of plastic onto their phone's screen? Doesn't sound like a good use of funds.

they get messed up in a few months easily. they're scratched like no other.

i'd throw one out every 6 months. an improperly applied one means it might peel off even sooner.

BTW gorilla glass is still scratchable. My iPod Touch and Droid (2 months w/o screen protector) both have a line scratch roughly .5 cm long. There are some microscratches here and there on the Droid.
