Maybe it's the battery connections? The prong things, I forgot what they're called. something something.....

Well, since its a brand new lappy, call HP and have 'em take care of it. But I have no specific solution for you.

are you sure it isn't outputting to the external VGA connector? hook it up to a monitor if you have one to see if its doing this, maybe you bumped some keys and have selected the external display
