The deal is, I left my 550mhz P3 computer with a friend a few days, and was told you couldn't see anything on the screen any longer. When I tried it, indeed nothing was showing on the screen (not even the BIOS boot info), but the second time I tried it, all was okay.... execpt the mouse wouldn't work in windows. Every time after that, the screen problem remained. After some troubleshooting, switching components, here's what I found out:

The hard drive works, (I can hear it startup fine, and switching hard drives changed nothing). The motherboard works (the light is on). THe power supply works (another PS did not change anything). The video card must work, because I tried 2 other cards and they didn't solve the problem. The monitor works, because I tried another monitor (CRT this time instead of LCD), and nothing changed. The memory seems to be okay, because I took out 3 modules and left just 1, and no beeps on startup (the computer appears to startup fine. It just won't startup the monitor. When you turn the monitor on manually (green light), it switches to standby (orange light). Keybd & mouse work.

During troubleshooting, I made sure to remove all peripherals, so only 1 hard drive, 1 RAM module and 1 video card was installed. The only thing I haven't switched out is the CPU, but the CPU fan works, so I don't see that it would have burned out, and if it had, Im presuming the mobo would tell me so by beeping. Anything I may have missed that could cause a monitor to fail to turn on?

it sounds like you have some video sometimes if so have you checked the Bios settings to be sure no one changed anything? Also it would help if we had more info like what OS. Other tan that malware always is a concern when you let someone else use your system, do you have anything that would make you concerned about that?
