Screen magnifier?

A friend of mine at work asked me to look into finding something that magnifies your monitor. He can't remember where he seen it or what it was called, but it is supposed to make a 17" monitor view like a 19" monitor. Can any of you guys help me out? If so does anyone know where I could find one of these products and/or price?

There is just something pretty hokey about looking at your monitor through a magnifying glass. Also, some of these cost as much as a 19" monitor does these days!
