Hello...
I'm trying to help a friend diagnose a problem he's having with his computer, and before he purchases a new videocard, I would like a little clarification if maybe its some sort of other issue beforehand.
Basically, he has an 15-2500k processor (not overclocked) 8 GB Ram, Windows 8, and a AMD 4870 videocard. In playing Guild Wars 2, if he plays any race other than human, and tries to play on that race's homeworld, his screen will "lock up" and go black, and he'll let me know on vent that he's locked.
If he was moving his character, I can see his character keep moving in game, and then his screen will come back, and everything will be fine. On the human homeworld, his game will "lock up" if he goes underwater, and in some caves where's there's a lot of stuff going on graphically. Ironically, it doesn't happen when in a major pve battle with alot of other players.
With Orcs Must Die 2, his game would lock up for a few seconds when he would be placing traps (if he looked at the trap as he was placing it). To solve this issue, he did turn down the graphics settings.
In a nutshell, does this appear to be a videocard issue, a heat issue, ram issue or something else? My thinking is videocard, but would like a second opinion in case I'm missing something.
Thanks...
Dave
