everytime I play a game (currently playing Freedom Fighters and Beyond Good & Evil) my monitor will go blank after a couple of minutes. It's like the monitor is in standby mode, or there's no input from VGA. What's wrong???
I'm running 9600XT with Cat 4.2. Tried changing fastwrite on/off and agp 8x/4x, no result.
Will reinstall Cat 3.10 tonight... any other ideas?

nope... 3.10 doesn't help. weird, it never like this before.
It seems that VPU recover resets the card, but I don't overclock my card....

well, in that case it sounds to me as if there is a problem with the vxd drivers possibly, or it could be a heat problem.

What size is your monitor and what resolution do you play it at? Maybe you are playing at a bad resolution. Try another video cable, that could be the problem. Also try another video card.

ADI Microscan 17 inch, running desktop @ 1152x864, 85Hz. Play games at 1024x768 @ 75Hz or 85Hz.

I searched on Rage3D forum... it seems a lot of ppl have the same problem upon upgrading to Cat 4.2 and rolling back the driver doesn't solve the problem as if Cat 4.2 leaves some settings in the system. LOL, this is the first time I have a problem with Catalyst drivers.
Jeez... I'm not in a mood to reinstall the whole system.

yes, I did use Driver Cleaner.
PSU 350W. hmmmm.... maybe the power dropped? Ok, I'll try to plug my card on my friend's PC with Cat 4.2 and we'll see what happens....

Its the video card! The monitor shuts off but you can still hear the game right? Ya this happened to me and it definately wasnt my monitor or the settings I used because I used the same settings with my Ti4600 and this never happened. The next time it happened my monitor was destroyed and wouldnt work even with a new graphics cards so I had to buy a new monitor. It seems as though ATI has some issues to work out in the display department. I think maybe the driver instability makes the frequencies of the monitor fluctuate to overcome some other problems ATI has and they see this as ok and expect everyones monitor to respond normally to this. What I said was most likely way off but thats just how I feel. Good luck to you!

NEVERwinter, you tried installing latest monitor drivers? Also reinstalling the chipset drivers(especially AGP driver) can`t do no harm.

I have the exact same problem that JUST STARTED TODAY. So freakin wierd. I've had the Cat 4.2s for weeks now...

Anyways, I can't play ANY games. I'm using a Radeon 9800 Pro. Anyone come up with a fix for this? My game will last about 10-20 seconds before my monitor tells me there's no more video signal coming in... Then it goes into power saving. This is definitely a video issue.

Yeah, this is weird.
On Rage3D forum some ppl said that this only happens in OGL games and some others said only on D3D games. But all claims this only happens on Cat 4.2, and rolling back the driver won't solve the problem.

I had my 470w enermax when this happened. But the bottom fan wasnt working so I had to RMA so I doubt the PSU was the problem.

That is correct. I disabled VPU Recover and then reset the system when the monitor went blank, after restart Windows told me that there's a display problem from the module ati2dvag.dll.

If you have any refresh forcing utilities like ReForce or PowerStrip or you've used your drivers to force a refresh rate, try disabling them.

hi,
for anyone still having this problem.
i was having the same problem with my 9800pro. i had gone so far as to do an rma on it and was worknig with a new one since rolling back drivers hadnt worked and i'd tried most other things mentioned here.
the omega 4.3 drivers worked and now i am playing far cry without blanking... for the first time.
try the omegas but be sure to clean your system of the previous ati video drivers first.
good luck
