ABIT SG-71 MB sound and video on board
SIS 651/962L chipset
Celeron 1.8
256 MB DDR
20 GB Maxtor

Clean HD and I installed Win XP Pro. System was booting and loading Windows just fine. I installed the chipset drivers, audio drivers, modem drivers. System was taken home and when started up it began loading windows then the screen went black. Restarted in Safe Mode and it stalled. I'm just looking for suggestions here... last time I had this particular problem with a machine it was faulty video drivers for an AGP card, but this board had video built in. I can't even start up in Safe to try to load updated drivers from the SIS website. ABIT doesn't have drivers for this board on it's site.

I am just going by what I have seen others recommend.

1) PSU - Read Power Supply 101 for more information.

2) Remove all extra peripherals except for PSU, motherboard, CPU, and memory. Reboot and see what happens.

3) Check Abit's website to see if they support your memory. Check Abit's website to see if they support Celerons. 🙂 j/k

4) Run memtest86 or memtest86+ for at least 24 hours to test memory.

5) Try removing one stick of memory, reboot and see what happens, switch memory sticks around for different configurations.

6) Use Maxtor's diagnostic utilities to test the hard drive.

7) Hope that the problem has now been solved.

At what point is the bootstrap process stalling?

What happened when you selected "Last Known Good" configuration?

What happened in Safe Mode, Command Line?

What does "Stalled" mean?
