Screen Goes Black and System Reboots for no Reason.

Ok this is the thrid time this has happened. Ok this happened to me this morning. This was just strange. I was opening my email on my BOX and the screen went black, No blue screen no nothing and the whole machine rebooted. I got a WINDOW HAD A SERIOUS FAILURE. message. Checked the details and this is what i got.

Ok i ran a Virus scan and no dice. So i got this tread on expert excahnge saying to download the windows debugging kit to view the dump file. So i did. Here are the Results.

Anybody know that they mean. I think i is the driver to my Fire GL card or it is the hard. I have no idea what i am looking at. any help would my much appreicated.

Hmmm I would run Memtest86 from here and see if it finds anything wrong with your ram,this `ll also bump your post .

I agree. Memtest first. If no problems come up there, then start looking at your video card or other things.

Ran both Mem test and the Windows Mem Test and got no errors. Let them run while i was at lunch. and both came back clean. So do you think it is just a Bum Video card or a Bum Driver.

Which drivers are you using?

I'd roll them back first, and see if the problem goes away.

Ok I just updated my drivers to the newest Drivers. i was Running Version 6 driver that came with the card. I updated yesterday with the 7 drivers. Thought that would fix it. Now here is where things get really strange. I just went to check the drivers. They are telling me that they are still the 6 version drivers. But they have the right date for the 7 version drivers. Hmmmmp.

Now on the failure i tried to reinstall to a new driver which was 7.96.2.1 now here is the funny thing.

Installed those 7 dirvers and i am still getting th error went to check the driver properties and they are still version numbers as teh 6 drivers. The date changed but the version number did not. This is sounding funny to me. lol.

No the machine is not overclocked. Running at the AMD 2700 rate. The Ram is not overclocked either.

And before you installed the new drivers you uninstalled the old ones? If not what I would do is uninstall the old drivers via Add/Remove Programs in the Control Panel and then when asked to reboot say no. ATi usually creates a folder in the root directory so for example c:\ATI. I would delete the ATI folder completely and then reboot. Upon reboot, reinstall the latest drivers to see if that works.

And you said you're using a Fire GL, but your sig says you have a 9600XT. Can you clarify exactly which card you're using?

Do you have the latest nForce2 chipset drivers installed? I think they're version 3.13.

On the machine here at work no. That is prob a good idea since i had problems with the other drivers at home.

I would try loading the latest chipset drivers, but during install when it asks you to load the IDE drivers, say no.

You definitely need to completely remove the drivers and install them over again. Weird things happen when you just install newer video drivers over older ones.

cool so my plan of attack it step one replace the drivers. If i have the problem again i am going to check to make sure the card is seated properly. if those do not work any other ideas of what i should try.

So what ever became of your problem gatothecat? I'm having the same problem. I've seen many postings on this when I did a google search on "sysdata.xml", but there doesn't seem to be any concrete solutions. I haven't changed anything on my system besides just installing some new programs. I've tried getting rid of those and I've tried the System Restore, which failed (I just tried the latest one, so I might try an earlier one).

Anyone have a solution?

I'm ready to reinstall Windows, but I thought I read that someone tried that and it didn't work!
