screen flashes to black after NVIDIA drivers

I have a 8800GTS with Vista 64bit and a 22in wide monitor. Just upgraded system. I was having problems with COD4 where it looked like glitter on the screen, I fixed that with changing the resolution to higher and changing aspect ratio to wide screen.
But after the latest Nvidia drivers, Copmany of Heroes gives me problems sometimes, kicks me to desktop and says my drivers have just recovered from something, then I usually get a blue screen.
And today while just on my desktop, the whole screen flashes to black, and sometimes it says autosave mode on the screen like my monitor is is power save mode or something.

Any ideas?
Thanks

Your first issue with "glitter" sounds more like over-heating. Now your getting even more problems which kind of sounds like card failure or still running too hot.

Rivatuner can check temps, check clocks, and increase fan speeds among other things.
Rivatuner
Download that and check your temps during idle and load and report it back here. Though generally if its idling at 75C or higher, or load it 95 or higher, the card is burning up. At 105-110 is when the blue screen happens.

edit: is that an 8800GTS 512 or 320/640? If its the former, the fan speed is set to 29% almost all the time, and a lot of people have had overheating issues. Also, which company makes the card? I think EVGA and BFG released new BIOS for their G92 cards for the fan speed.

Welcome to the wonderful world of nV's Vista x64 drivers.

I've been enjoying the same kinda random crap like that for nearly all the latest version of their drivers :frown:
And no, it's not system instability or video card issues, it's shit drivers.
black screens - yup
flickering black screens - yup
occasional BSODs due to me attempting to revive a black screened system - yup

I could revert to old ones that didn't do that, but then other newer games would be unplayable due to other issues.

I have a EVGA 8800 GTS 512. Couldn't get Rivatuner to install because Vista says the driver is not digitally signed, couldn't find where to fix that in vista. So never got it installed. So where can I get the new evga bios at?
Thanks for that help

Think I found that BIOS update, gonna try that now.

Oh, I have the 640 KO edition from EVGA. Well anyway I tried installing the new BIOS. I read the directions of downloading the bios, but first I uninstalled the current Nvidia drivers, restarted computer, then tried to run the update BIOS from EVGA and it flashed real quick to where I can hardly read anything, but after several times I could make out that it said there was no display adapter found. So I restarted again, reinstalled nvidia drivers, and tried it again. Still can't get the EVGA bios to update.

Running Everest now to check temps. They look ok. I'm getting 52 on GPU Memory and 46 on GPU Ambient.
