screen does not automatically refresh

Can anyone tell me why on various occasions (does not always happen) when I empty the recycle bin that the screen is not automatically refreshed, i.e. the contents of the recycle bin are still shown on the screen and you have to manually refresh the screen before the contents are gone ?? Does this have something to do with the amount of content in the recycle bin ??

Am using Windows 2000 Pro.

I have seen this behavior on computers both at work and on my home computers.

I can't believe that I am the only one that has every seen this behavior.

Apparently noone knows the answer to this one !!!!

Just one of MS's wonderful little glitches. I've seen it but never researched how to fix it if there even is a fix.
