hey guys! i have a 2.8 p4 with a ti4200 128mb graphics card with the latest drivers and directx 9.0a using winxp home sp1. there were several games that i have that had all the same problems - mohaa, unreal 2, and splinter cell. the game plays fine for a few minutes, then all of a sudden the screen blurs and all these blocky color boxes come up and my computer freezes. it happens to all three games - does anyone else have this problem?

wow I was honestly just about to post the same exact problem. I have the chaintech GF4 Ti4200 128mb.

It's been happening for about 6 months, or at least thats when I noticed it first. The screen flashes to a refreshing grid of multicolored blocks for about half a second then either goes white and freezes, or simply reboots my computer. It only happens on high resolution games like UT2003 and Splinter Cell, probably ones that use the T&L.

The funny thing is it's unpredicable. Sometimes I can play for 4 hours and nothing will happen, others it will just crash in 30 seconds. If I really want to make it die fast I can either start the UT2003 benchmark demo or 3dmark03 - it does it very quick on both (in the second demo level for UT).

Any advice for us both?

you've prolly got one of the defective cards from one of gainward's bad batches, ill try and find a link about it, but id suggest just RMA'ing it

edit: i guess i should add, i had one of these defective cards, i rma'd it and got a nice brand new one of equal speed

Hmm.

Well that doesn't solve my problem since I have a Chaintech model. After searching for 10 minutes or so I can't find any other instances with my card, nor can I find somewhere to RMA it.

I had to RMA my Gainward ti4200. I RMA with newegg. That card is no longer made or sold at newegg so I think I am just going to get a refund am I right? They still sell a Gainward Ti4200 but its a 8x model.

mine was a 4x ti4200, i rma'd it to gainward/cardexpert, and got the same model back, with the 8x agp as a bonus

mmm bonus! Hopefully newegg will do that. (the newer model has faster ram and better heat sinks too!)
