Screen distortion when playing MMO's...

I have never seen a problem like this before. It only happens when I am playing an MMO eaither World of Warcraft(WoW) or Guild Wars(GW). When I play Half-Life 2(HL2) it doesn't happen.

I will try my best to describe this. What happens is this: when playing MMOs my screen will "flicker". When it flickers the colors are distorted. It sort of looks like the screen folds onto itself. I thought it was because my PCI-E video card didnt have enough power. (at one point the nvidia software said so) So I recently changed my powersupply and reformatted just for good measure. It seems this problem is still happening.

Another problem, which I don't know if its related, that has been happening is while playing WoW the monitor will just shut off like its going into power saving mode. This problem only happens in WoW and not in GW

I just updated the BIOS so maybe that will help. The only other problem I can see is heat issue, which would be understandable on load its running 64C-65C but if it were heat I would think that it would happen in HL2 as well. I am stumped. 🙁

Specs:
3.4 Ghz P4
D915PBL Motherboard
Nvidia 6600GT 128MB

Any ideas?

Try going into the color correction tab and change the "Desktop" dropdown to "All" then hit apply.

Nope that didnt work. Hmm I guess I will have to try a new CPU fan. What about a video card overheating what wil happen if that does occur?

Verify what refresh rate you have selected in the options for WoW. It may be driving the monitor to hard. If you have it set above 72 or 75 switch to that and see if it helps. For me I have a good NEC 22" monitor and run it at 1600X1200 32 bit, with an 85Hz refresh rate. But the options are there to choose a lower refresh rate. With the newer PCI-e graphics card, you probably have the ability to drive the monitor beyond what it can handle.

It's worth a check.

Can you hook us up with some screen shots? What kind of monitor do you have, and what refresh rate do you run? Sounds kind of like a low refresh rate problem, I get some screen shakes sometimes when I run 60hz.

Well I have the refresh set to 72. At the res its set for it can handle 85Hz accroding to specs. Its a split sec glitch every 20-30mins randomly or I would provide screen shots I have tried to capture it but I'm not that fast! I am still leaning tward heat problem because now when I remove the side of my computer and play it doesnt happen....
