Screen corruption on resume after plugging in laptop

The laptop is a 11.6" Acer Aspire 1410 w/ GMA 4500 video and Win7. Video drivers are current as is the Bios. I have the system set to suspend upon closing the lid. If I do this while on the battery, and plug it in while it's suspended, the screen will become corrupted (flashing dots and a squiggly mess) at the login screen when resuming. The initial Bios and loading Windows screen are uncorrupted, and a reboot after the corruption occurs will clear it out. Otherwise I'm not having any problems, but would like some input on whether this is likely a hardware problem or buggy video drivers with maybe something funky going on with power states. Thanks.

Well for what it's worth I changed the power settings to "max performance" instead of "balanced" in both the Windows power management and Intel graphics control panel and it's not doing it anymore.
