for starters, merry christmas everyone!

I am in the military and home on leave right now for Christmas. My younger sister, 14, wanted Sims 2 for Xmas so I decided to buy it for her. I upgraded her computer a little to prepare for this game also. The specs were: p4 1.7, this MSI motherboard http://www.msicomputer.com/pro....asp?model=645_Ultra-C , 256mb ddr 2100 )added another 256mb ddr), sapphire 9550 128mb, 20gb hd...

well, i installed the extra memory and this video card and I am having big problems now. regardless of what i am doing on her machine, it will just lock up randomely. every now and then the VMU will catch it and is able to recover, but most of the time the screen just goes black and then it is all over. i have tried reseating the video card, memory, and checked all of the connections and it all seems well. I tried the regular catalyst drivers and also the omega drivers. i have no idea what to do. she is a bit disappointed right now and i would like to get it working before i have to go back to ft. gordon in georgia.

does anyone know of this problem and a potential way to fix it? is the chipset on the motherboard not good for ati or something? i am stumped. i have a feeling someone out there knows what to do!

The specs the motherboard do not support AGP8x and you have an AGP8x/4x video card... may try looking thru the BIOS and see if you can turn off fast writes... experiment with the video settings. Maybe update the mobo drivers etc as well... last resort.. get another video card

Does it crash only in game play? Does it crash in just windows? Is there a fan on this card? Could it be over-heating maybe? May want to see if you can put a case fan in your system if u don't have one already

it crashes in windows, havnt even had the chance to play a game yet, or tried i should say. i have physically felt the card when it freezes and it doesnt seem hot at all. it has passive cooling, just the heatsink. i am going to check in bios for those fast writes, i bet a few are on. what effect would the fastwrite have on it?

thanks a lot for taking the time to reply!

id like to update the mobo drivers and such, i will look into it and make sure i have all of the newest. is there a good way to go about that?
