Screeching and the Audigy

I'm having a problem here. I've got an SB Audigy Gamer in my AMD Athlon 1.3Ghz on an Abit KT7 mobo. Now I've got one problem with this thing that I can't figure out at all. I have 2 software titles that I run that I have problems with. NASCAR 2002 and Grand Theft Auto 3 to name them. Well what my problem is is during NASCAR everything will be good, I'll be running it for, oh say, 30mins when all of the sudden when I go into the offtrack race came I'll start getting a screaching sound when the cars pass the camera. It will continue in the view but if I go full screen in the offtrack race screen the screaching will stop. Now in Grand Theft Auto 3, the screaching will start alot quicker, basically once I get into the game and start driving my Audigy will start to screech and the screeching will gradually get worse. It will confinue on until I quit the game. Now in addition to that, I use a USB game controller (Logitech Wingman Extreme) which is hooked up to a Belkin 4-port USB hub. Only 1 other connection is in that HUB and that is a Logitech steering wheel. Now while I'm having this screeching problem and I continue to play, eventually my USB will go offline, only to come back online a minute later. This only seems to happen with these 2 games. I can play Never Winter Night, Quake 3, UT, etc and never run into the problem. But for some reason I get it with these titles.

Has anyone heard of such a problem? If so what would help me cure this problem so that I can continue to play GTA3.

Please anyone out there with knowledge on this, help me out :)

Thanks..

Sounds exactly like problems I had with a KT133A board, particularly with the 686B southbridge and the Creative cards. But your board doesn't have the 686B. It has the 686A which AFAIK didn't have the same issues.

Still, I'd buy a Santa Cruz and be happy.

Unfortunately money doesn't come easy now adays :'( I've already bought this card do to review that I read praising it's sound quality which I can't argue with. These two games are just frustrating. GTA3 is twice as bad as N2k2.

I'm hoping it's something that can be fixed...

I have a similar kinda problem, it usually happens when I am playing Dungeon Siege, about 30 mins into the game, the screeching sound begins and sometimes my pc will even lock up.

btw I am using an MSI KT3 Ultra ARU board with a XP 1800+ processor.

Exactly the problems I had with my Iwill board. Not to start a flame war, but it's why I personally won't buy a VIA motherboard OR a Creative sound card. Plenty of other good choices out there.

Using two Creative sound cards (SB LIVE & Audigy on two VIA boards) with no problems & I game a lot,so there`re lots of people using them fine,as to your problem well I`ve never had any sound problems in gaming or general use,so all I can suggest is you try moving the Audigy to a different PCI slot, also being it only happens with those two games & you said
eventually my USB will go offline, only to come back online a minute later
could mean hardware problem somewhere else, try installing the latest VIA 1.10 USB filter driver as well from

here .

The screeching problem is probably the infamous squeal of death that some Audigy users experience. Creative are aware of the problem but so far have no idea what's causing it.

Make sure you have the latest BIOS and chipset drivers installed for your system and make sure you have Creative's latest Audigy drivers installed too.
