scratchy noise when accessing hd

when i play any music i hear scratchy noises when i access my harddrives, if i'm not playing any music then i don't hear any of these noises. i recently formated my drives and everything worked fine beforethen. these changes were made to my hardware right before i reformated: replaced a nec 19" monitor with a nec/mit 22" (not sure if it would affect it or not) took a sata 250gb drive off of the onboard sata controller, took out a promise sata controller card and put the 2 74gb raptors that were on that controller card onto my onboard sata controller.

i have tried all available pci slots in my computer, 1 & 2 i cannot try becuase of my video card and when i have it in slot 3 whenever i play dvds i can't set it to any sound setting other than 2 channel or the dvd skips really bad. 4 and 5 are the only 2 i've tried and they have the same scratchy noise problem. the only wires close to my soundcard are the power wire for the soundcard (gives power to the firewire fr the external box) and the power cable from the psu that it plugs into.

one concern i have is that the onbaord sata plugs are about an inch below my soundcard and i think maybe that could be causing interference some how, but i can't put the card into a slot higher away from the sata controller.

my mother is an asus a7n8x deluxe rev 2, sound card is a sb audigy 2 plat pro hooked up to a creative gigaworks 2750 stereo system.
