Scratched XP Home Installation Disc

I am building a computer for my stepdad. I have a valid XP Home Retail edition key, but when I try installing from my copy of the disc it fails to find a file ('asm' or 'asms' i think) and thus cannot install.

Is there a way I can maybe validate my cd-key with Microsoft in order to download either the damaged/missing files or possibly an iso image of the XP Home Retail installation disc? If you guys have any other suggestions, they would be much appreciated.

Again, I have a valid key but no way to use it. Just looking for some help.

You can get a new disc from Microsoft.

I was looking on their site for this, but was unlucky. I'm going to try the fix the other guy posted, but if not I will look a little more to see where this is. Thanks.

Thanks! Gonna try it out. I'd been looking around microsoft for a cd download. Really appreciate your help.

🙁 I was following the Hard Disk NTFS instructions, but "The system cannot execute the specified program" for regedit.exe.

I guess I'll go looking for a way to get a replacement cd on the microsoft site. It was definitely worth a try.
