scratched up music CD..

so I have a music CD that is scratched up pretty bad at the bottom, and it skips pretty bad......

what can I do to help it? Can I burn it to a new blank CD? will that work?

You can try one of those CD scratch repair kits. You can also try to copy the CD directly, and hopefully the cdrom drive will be able to read it well enough to get a good copy. Set the read speed way down and don't do on the fly copying.

One of my friends bought one of those cleaning kits, it comes with a battery powered buffer thingy. He got it at K Mart I think. Anyways, you put the CD in it, and it does its thing. He said it'll buff out pretty much any scratch on a CD. He was VERY impressed with it. He used to have a hald operated one which he said sucks, but the automatic ones are supposed to be very good. Might check on that, I'm going to look into one myself.
