Well, when I was trying to remove the thermal paste from my Taisol CGK760092 I accidentally scratched the bottom of the base in a couple of places. I was trying to remove it with a razor blade.....big mistake. The paste on this HS was soooo hard to get off. Anyway, bottom line is it's scratched. It's only a slight scratch (not very deep but the surface isn't smooth anymore) in both places. Did I ruin it or do you think it'll be all right?
Thanks!

Gooter: You can try lapping the heatsink. "Lapping" means to sand it until its a smooth, almost mirror finish.

Just goto the top and enter "lapping" or "sanding" in the search box and you should find multiple threads about this.

If you are removing thermal paste like artic silver or the stuff you buy at radio shack, not the thermal pads, you can just use some lint-free cloth and rubbing alcohol wipe the paste off. That should do the trick. Don't use a razor. ;)

Enjoy. :D

my thermoengine is lapped to a reflective finish..

damn core left an imprint on it when i took it off.. and it wasnt paste, the metal was dented.. how odd is that? put it back on anyway and the temps are the same.. :)

I used a blade on my heatsink too (a ThermoEngine) because I knew I'd HAVE to lap it. It isn't even a choice with the TE.
