I rented Alien 20th anniversary DVD from blockbuster and the final chapter was really unclear because of the numerous scratches on the DVD. Am I eligible for a refund or exchange for another DVD?

edit: typos

When I worked at Hollywood Video a couple of summers ago, if a customer brought the DVD back, we'd usually exchange it for another copy of the same title, but we'd only give them the time remaining on their rental. They'd just have to return it the day that it would normally have been due. I think that's what we did, anyway. I don't think we gave them a whole other rental period.

That's because Hollywood Video is ghetto and lame. I hate that place.

Agreed. I like Blockbuster a lot more, but they weren't hiring when I was looking for a job.

Yeah Blockbuster is really lax with their policies and how they treat customers. The guy told me I had an outstanding fee from a previous late return... I told him I never even rented that movie (I really didn't) and he said that it was okay and he'd cancel the balance. I've heard this happen with other people too.. complain a little and they'll do you right.

Hollywood is 2nd rate compared to Blockbuster in my opinion. The Hollywood Video right here feels like an open warehouse for some reason when we go in... not like a store even though it looks like one.

Yes, you are definitely entitled to an exchange. As an employee of a Blockbuster franchise store, I get to handle this kinda thing every day(almost). Just go in and tell them that the disc was scratched and ask if you can exchange it. They should exchange it for another copy if they have it. If they don't, they should let you pick another movie. If there isn't another movie that you want to see, they will probably offer to put a credit on your account for the next time you come in. Our store isn't big on refunds if we can get around it. I believe our policy is to exchange or credit unless it's a special case or an exception.

I have had that happen a couple different times at Blockbuster. I even got a free LOTR dvd with the 10 week rental card that was defective. I just take it back explain the problem and they always give me a different one or let me select something else no fuss no muss.

It happened to me before at BlockBuster w/ We Were Soldiers... I brought it back and they gave me another DVD on the spot (I didnt even need to complain, just told them what happened and they gave me a new disc right away)...

iono, but around here, hollywood video is a lot cheaper than blockbuster, and the clerks are really nice. any deals that come around they usually give to me without a coupon.
