Scratch on Motherboard...

Would a scratch on the mobo (near the cpu) stop it from posting ?? This scratch would obviously be from installing the HSF. 🙁

Anyway, if it posted with a scratch, does it mewan that it isnt harmed, or can it still crash/mess up somewhere else ???

SO I guess what Im trying to say is...

If a scratch doesnt stop it from posting, does it mean that there is no damage ???

**sorry for confusion** 😀

ve got a scratch on my mobo from installing as hsf as well. Its still wokrin just like normal so if it works i dont think theres been any real damage.

Unless it cut some traces on them mobo I would say it's fine. Just load up an os and run it for like an hour or two and if you have no problems i'd say your fine.

Trust Me, I would load up an OS if I could, but I dont have my monitor right now 🙁

Thats why Im asking instead of actually trying. I cant wait to get my Monitor, but it will still be a couple of days.

Anyway, thanx for the answer d00ds.

Examine the damage with a magnifying glass. If the traces are not cut completely through you're okay. If they are cut a good man with a small soldering iron can fix it.

Im on a laptop. I dont have a cable that could run from my vidcard to the port on the Lap.

I dont think there is damage, because there is a layer of plastic over the circuits. I just get really nervous around PC hardware. 😛

It's really hard to tell if a scratch have broken copper traces on a mobo unless you actually try to boot. I did scratched mine about two times and this scratches are a result of a flat tip screw driver while removing or installing HSF. So far it still boots. Of course, if this is a new mobo and just received from the mail, you might want to examine the scratch to make sure it's not from a screw driver which tells you it's an RMA's item.😎
