Scrapping my Monitor for my TV

I bought a new computer. I want to keep my old one by my entertainment center so I can use it to record tv, play videos and play music.

I already installed a video capture card so that part is done. I could just use the audio out on my sound card and connect it to my receiver so that part is done too.

What I want to know is, does the TV-Out I see mentioned on video cards work like the VGA out? By this I mean, do only certain programs send video out of the TV-Out, or can the TV-Out take the place of the VGA out so that I can see my desktop on my TV (in essence replacing my monitor with my TV)?

You can see your desktop, basically it will work just like a monitor. The only real drawback is that on most TVs it looks not so great (due to resolution limits). But for doing basic stuff like setting up recording and stuff you will be fine. You dont need an actual monitor.

You can display your desktop on your TV. You can also have the TV-out be a separate, secondary display for movies, etc.

Be aware that TVs (except HDTVs, if you're connecting through DVI or component cables) are very low-quality -- anything above 640x480 (at best) is going to result in unreadably blurry text and lousy graphics.

thanks guys,

All I need now is to get a wireless kb/mouse combo and I'll be set.

btw, any recommendations for a tv-out video card. I'm looking to spend <$60. Also, will it affect my Video capture card at all???

Thanx
