i was late for an appointment and had only slept about 2 hours of unfitful sleep the night before since i had just flown in. anyhow, its no excuse but i tried squeezing into a space that i shouldn't have tried and as a result a heard the worst sound in the world ... a scrape on a car i didn't own and rented with a company credit card. i filed a report with avis after i returned the car.

my question is ... anyone ever done this before and, if so ... what do i do now? what will happen? i'm going to tell my supervisor, obviously, but im just wondering what the process is like now.

Did you or your company pay for the optional insurance coverage? Some corporate travel agencies pay for it automatically, while your insurance may also cover some of the damages.

Did you get all of those coverages when you pick up the car? If so, you should be OK.

company policy to deny everything. i think the corporate amex has collission damage waiver or what not. the coverage that most cards have? my insurance won't cover it as my car isn't worth that much so i have liability. plus if i can keep my insurance company out of it i would rather do that.

I'm sure it's happened before, and either the company has supplimental coverage (wether it's automatic via AMEX or not who knows) or they just pay for it when it happens.

Small accidents happen, especially when you're traveling in an area you're not familure with.

Iono, check out your company amex's policy. My company card has automatic rental insurance when we use it.

Corporate cards have primary car rental insurance, so it covers it and you don't need to worry about your own personal insurance rates going up.

Not to get too far off subject here, but you know even though its a company AMEX, AMEX considers YOU liable for all charges on it.

If your company cant or wont pay the bill, AMEX will hound YOU 24/7 52 weeks a year until you pay them. And AMEX has some really nasty collectors.

Of course you say, it wont happen to me. My friend said the same thing, one day he went to work and the doors were padlocked. He owes AMEX about $7000 from his company AMEX.

Just a FYI.

I was under the impression that it depends on the agreement.

If it's under your name, and you pay the bill and then the company reimburses you, then yes this would hold true.

If it's not under your name, and you simply make the purchases and never handle any money going to Amex, then they couldn't legally come after you.

I think because you sign the charge slips, you are legally liable for the debt incurred.
