Before I go on my "damned liberals, nanny state blah blah" soap box let me bring up why I get on the soap box in regards to our gun rights.
Once you head down the slope, YOU NEVER STOP. People say they support certain bans on this or that, but invariably it leads to other bans and so on and so forth. Truly, once you start the slide its virutally impossible to stop.

This is why I'm so adamant we retain our right to keep and bear arms as much as we can. Today, in our country, the movement is to ban firearms of various types or sizes. This has already been done in Europe. They still have problems with crime, and since guns can no longer be blamed they've moved on to other weapons. Now its knives. In Europe guns have been demonized to the point the collective buys into the idea that guns are bad. The European Powers That Be have moved on to doing the same for other weapons.

Europe is pushing knives in the same light America is trying to push guns.

Dont think it could happen here? Better think again.....

Crackdown takes 179 knives off west Scotland streets
JOHN INNES

ALMOST 180 knives have been taken off the streets of the Strathclyde Police area after a campaign against violence.

About 20,000 people were stopped and searched by police in the region between 6 November and 3 December. Across Scotland, 500 knives and other weapons - including coshes, machetes, swords and meat cleavers - were seized.

Officers used more than 1,000 metal detectors distributed under the Safer Scotland initiative, recovering 299 knives and 244 other weapons.

Strathclyde led the way in knife seizures with 179, followed by Lothian and Borders Police with 38, and Grampian with 25. Other forces' seizures were: British Transport Police, three; Central, 19; Dumfries and Galloway, one; Fife, six; Northern Constabulary, ten; and Tayside, 18.

Cathy Jamieson, the justice minister said: "Too many young men think it's acceptable to take to the streets with a knife in their pocket. I have a very clear message to them - carry a knife and you are now more likely than ever to be caught."

Chief Inspector Alex McGuire from the Safer Scotland co-ordination unit said: "These figures clearly demonstrate that there are still individuals out there who continue to think it's acceptable to carry a weapon on the streets of Scotland.

In other news, disgruntled Scots have taken up boards with nails in them. Parliament is expected to enact legislation banning such assault-boards with nails longer then 1", splinter-suppressors, or pistol grips.

No surprise at all, really, before you know it they will deem chewing and walking unsafe and institute people be forced to lay in bed with a feeding tube for nourishment.

Yes that was over the top but wont surprise me if it happens in 100 years.

You see the same in this country. First it was Smoking is bad, then it went to banning smoking on public state owned property to banning it on public private owned property. Now some are working on banning it on private private property.

Next up will be meat and anything deemed bad for your heart. Probably candy for your teeth. Alcohol for sure.

If we lost our guns the govt would really put the grinds to us. And they would also move onto knives.

Not long now and you'll need a specially authorized government employee to cut up your steak for you. 🙁

I wonder if this includes pocket knives?

You know...if some crazy nation every decided to invade Scotland, it would be really easy to take over.

Whatever, they will pass a law against the intruders and send them a nasty note in the mail telling them they are being mean.

I am trying to fit in with the rest of my selfish friends on the left, sorry.
Pay your fair share(pay my share) or stfu 😀

Ooops. Forgot to register my bag of spagetti noodles. Ever since that famous incident awhile back, our neighborhoods have never been safe again. Remember the wet noodle rampage? Where some guy strangled 75 elderly ladies with a wet noodle? So tragic.

Add to the list of things you're not allowed to carry into a Courthouse or Bank and those new Wet Noodle Free Zones that surround schools.

Maybe we'll have to have our knuckles filed down when we're born...or maybe we can pass a government limit to how strong our muscles can be.

We may as well just lock everyone up at birth.

Oh **** I gave them an idea they?ll like. Honestly, I can see it happening. Government educational centers to rehab the innate criminal in all of us until we?re deemed worthy of contact with others.

It says something kind of sad about a society when the government has to step in to protect the society from its own stupidity. Humanity has never really grown up, it seems.
Gov: "Don't touch that burner, it's hot, it'll hurt you."
Society: "Psh, you're not the boss of me."
PSSSSHHHHH
Society: "OW! Why didn't you stop me from doing that?"
Gov: "Ok, fine, I will."
Society: "No! I want the freedom to be stupid and hurt myself."
Gov: 😕

Of course, the problem there is that the stupid society is appointing stupid people to government - a truly representative form of government. This is a bipartisan comment too. The realm of "stupid" covers a majority of government, with Democrats, Republicans, and Independents firmly within its bounds.

Democracy is only truely effective when citizens actually care about voting.

You know what I REALLY want to know, why you gun and weapon nuts don't get your panties in such a twist about NON-gun rights?

And before I get the NRA crowd jumping on me, I think the Brits have an even stupider view of weapons than a lot of countries. They are the most underarmed and over policed nation on earth, and yet I've seen a lot of stats suggesting NYC is far safer than London. The big brother approach to crime is even less effective than the big brother approach to everything else (listen up, "conservatives"), yet for all the obvious faults, a lot of people seem to be pursuing it with gusto. I really don't understand it even a little bit.

And I think that's worth repeating, banning guns is silly an ineffective for EXACTLY the same reason tapping everyones' phones and tracking your every move is ineffective. Large scale, big brotherish approaches are a waste because they spend far too much energy harassing law-abiding citizens and are too easy for the real criminals to avoid.

The slippery slope argument fails to differentiate between different areas. The scotlanders that live in villages or in the woods can carry knifes all they want. But in city streets the knifes aren't used to carve wood, they are often involved in robberies or gang related youth violence... different cost-value ratio there.

It's similar to fireworks. They are fun and fine on Independence day but could be fatal in soccer stadiums. The logical consequence is to regulate things differently and it's no slippery slope here either, because I've yet to hear from a European country banning fireworks on its national holiday.

If I'm correctly informed, even in the US the gun laws vary because you can't hunt wild game or make target practice in urban areas (or you don't need a magazine with many bullets for self defense or whatever the reasoning may be). And other states don't folow this reasoning and are just fine.

The substitution argument is questionable too, because knifes have always been the most common tool in youth violence, much more than firearms anyway.

But not letting people gamble or letting gays get married suddenly makes a country legitimately safer?

Such a double standard for you cons.

The question is really how effective such a ban would be. You'll expend a fair amount of effort taking knives away from people who had no intention of committing a crime, while taking knives away from criminals will be quite difficult.

Vote by bullet, shoot the candidate you don't like! Of course they are armed too and get to shoot back, right! But if you are a patriot you will stand and take the shot! V! V! V!
