Over the last several months I have been getting a lot better appreciation for scotch and whiskey, and have been developing quite a pallet for the stuff.

A couple of weekend's ago we hosted a BBQ and a friend and I finished off a deliciously smoky bottle of Talisker 10 year. Just last weekend I picked up a bottle of Penderyn, a lovely citriusy/rasin Welsh single malt.

What have you been drinking recently? Do you like to try new things constantly, or do you have a few go to bottles that you replenish frequently?

Glendronach 12 - going to upgrade to the 15 once the bottle is finished, it's divine
Balvenie 12 Doublewood - just got this based on lots of recs, don't regret it
Macallan 15 Fine Oak - a light and fruity scotch, great for summer
Bowmore 12 Engima - I got it for cheap in the duty free, it's what I drink when I want the peat
Johnny Walker Black - When I want something smokey

I've heard great things about Glendronach so far. I think the 12 will be one of my next pickups as it's extremely inexpensive (relatively speaking) in my area. I think my next pickup will be Ardbeg 10 though. After finishing that bottle of Talisker I just want more smoke.

In the scotch department, I'm currently enjoying the following:
- Balvenie 15 Single Barrel - One of my regulars. Bottled from a single cask, so everytime I buy it, it's just a little bit different, but always fantastic.
- Glenlivet 18 - Enough said
- A Glenlivet 16 Nadurra is the next acquisition

In the grain whiskey department, I've been visiting the craft distillers in my region and have found some really good stuff:
- Middle West Spirits OYO Whiskey - Distilled from 100% wheat, so not as sweet as bourbon (corn), not as bold as scotch (malt). Makes a great cocktail, or just an easy sipper.
- Grand Traverse Distillery Ole George Whiskey - Been looking for a 100% Rye for making classic Manhattans, and this one is a good one.
