The drama behind the supposed "genius" the show claims it's based on is more interesting than the show itself (not terribly interesting, but the show set the bar pretty low).

Here's his AMA with most of his answers down-voted into oblivion. :p

That is excruciating to read. I can't believe people like him exist.

The implausibility of the tech stuff doesn't bother me. I find the characters sufficiently entertaining so I'll probably keep watching.

I suspect medical dramas take the same liberties with reality but since I don't have a medical background I don't know the difference.

The Soup had a clip from some reality show where the contestants were asked to watch the show and rave about how "awesome" it was. Looked terrible in just the few seconds I saw.

You must be talking about Big Brother. They were rather relentless on cross-promotions on the show this year. I recall things for </Scorpion>, Stalker, and Thursday Night Football. I believe all three involved competitions that were themed based upon the show in question, but they only did a cheesy </Scorpion> preview thing.

Between this and the CSI crap and whatever else, every time I turn on the TV or try to watch a show with somebody else...how can it all be so terrible? And why does it seem like everybody loves it all so much?

Why do I feel like there used to be good stuff on TV?

Is this the twilight zone?

Scorpion is fun to watch. Just forget everything you know about computers and electronics, suspend all belief in reality...just laugh at it...

Last night's Scorpion was probably my least favorite of the episodes so far (the entire second half was the
survive-the-fire bit plus the whole "I love y---" thing with Toby/Happy? Dumb.
) but overall I've liked the episodes I have seen. I think with any TV show or movie that is built around technology, you have to ignore the details and just accept it for what it is, like BoomerD said. The characters are different enough to make it interesting.

I think the issue with TV in general is that after decades of 30 and 60 minute shows in the familiar genres (sitcom, crime drama, etc.) it's almost impossible to come up with anything fresh. And with dozens and dozens of channels and streaming sites churning out new content, there aren't enough good writers to go around. So we end up with rehashed characters and plots you've seen over and over, and even within a series they recycle plots again.

Broadcast network programming is completely dead to me. Has been for many years now.

HBO is where it's at!

I can think of no scenario where I would be willing to watch </Scorpion>

There's just too much good stuff out there to waste your time. Don't have cable? Do Redbox / Netflix / Amazon Prime (NOTE: Amazon has HBO content). Shows like this make us stupid.

They really need to change CBS to something else, since all they have been doing is putting the BS in shows.
Talk about leaving logic at the door, they crashed a plane into the Chernobyl site, plane has 0 damage despite going straight into a concrete wall and blasting through, and then using a merry-go-round (that hasn't been operated since the incident) to hoist the plane away from the breach point, then they got to site see the "Elephant's Foot", and as that made its way to the rods, the solution it to cause a implosion of the building to bury it, all the while having no rad gear on, holding their breath trying to escape via a hole in the roof, then jumping off the side of the building with an extension cord tied around them, suffering no damage there either... yeah.

So point and laugh?

Pretty much. I've changed my opinion since the show first started. It's like they hired writers who are even more stupid than the first season...and they keep feeding them lead paint chips!

The first season, it was fun...although stupid. This season is stupid...and stupid. It's gone past just a bit of "suspend your knowledge of reality" to "Let's pretend this could actually happen...and the solution could actually work...after all, they're GEENYUSES!"

For various reasons, this show seems to be a money maker for CBS, so it seems to have a greater longevity than it's straight ratings would seem to indicate.

It is a fun show, but somewhat far fetched. As to the plane not getting too damaged, well it was an old WW2 war horse type of plane. Built very sturdily as compared to passenger planes. And the concrete was already failing and crumbling. So I can see it maybe going through the wall with minimal damage to the plane.

That logic is along the lines of: oh this is brawny paper towel, much stronger than the store brand. it will totally go through a brick wall unscathed.

Think what you want, but it is a known fact that poor concrete (improper mix or bad materials) will crumble easily. And as to the plane, you probably saw the show about the WW2 transport that crashed into the German Alps. The passengers survived the crash and the plane was not hurt that much.
