Scored a Smokin' multi-vid 2.53b from outpost

Okay I sold my last retail 2.53b that was stable at 3.04, but I think I was hitting top speed. So I bit the bullet and ordered a tray 2.53b from outpost. (I usually like to stay w/ retail boxed) It is in fact a multi-vid...or so I think.

Here's the markings on the chip:

2.53GHZ/512/533
SL6S2 Malay
L248A715-0322

My only question is the voltage. While I've read these chips run at a lesser default voltage than the regular P4's (1.475?) my bios on my P4PE won't go any lower than the normal 1.525. I would have thought the chip would send the voltage info to the bios to allow for the lower voltage, but I guess not.

Anyone else notice this? Does this mean that it's not a true multi-vid if I'm not getting the lower default voltage? The numbers seem to imply it is, with no voltage marking after the /533 on the chip, and the fact that it's a SL6S2...but I don't know.

I'm going to start cranking it up here shortly and see how it goes.

It is multi-vid. The board is not programmed in the bios to be able to go lower than 1.525. Mine is the same on a p4g8x. Nice chip... let us know how it goes...

Okay, thanks for the info pastorjay. It's your posts and the other Intel guys in this forum that inspired me to sell my retail and get one of these trays from outpost.

I've read about bent pins from them. Man...this one was a doozy!! I had no less than 11 bent pins on it, 5 of them on the corner were bent over completely flat :Q

Nothing an exacto knife and a pair of magno-glasses wouldn't fix though.

Let the overclocking begin..:D

Man this thing is smokin'!!

3.36GHz @ 177fsb ....without a single nudge of the vcore @ 1.525. Incredible!! :D

I'm running some PC3500 Geil memory @442MHz without a hiccup, and the Thermalright SLK-900 is keeping the cpu cool at 35c idle and 46c load.

I'm going for 3.4GHz with 179FSB and letting her stress test overnight. If it takes even just a little tweaking to get there (since I've virtually done none up to this point) I've got me an absolute screamer here!!

And running cool with low volts, it should last me a while...or a least until the HT'ing chips come down in price ;)

Glad to see another successful OC.... :) They really have some magic going for them. Very nice DDR speed you have also. ;)
