Don't know if you read my previous post about Micro Center sending me an Intel E4300 cpu yesterday even after I cancelled the order a week ago and not being charged for it.....and their CSRs )multiple because I called twice!) refusing to take it back. It's somewhere lost in the mists of the posts from yesterday if you're interested..........
Anyway, I'm thinking this may be a good start to a new computer for the wife....she usually gets my "hand-me-downs" from my upgrading. She was going to inherit an Athlon 64 4000+ cpu, Asus A8N-SLI Deluxe motherboard, 2 x 1GB Corsair XMS PC4200 DDR RAM and a Seagate 160GB SATA hard drive on Friday after I get my new C2D system built.
Today, I get the rolling of the eyes and a big sigh about having to take my used stuff....never mind it's not too shabby.
Oh boy.....I know that look. So, better build something comparable to mine for her and FAST! Especially considering I have this cpu sitting here..........
So, I've got this "free" cpu. I've got a Gigabyte DS3, Ver. 3.3, motherboard that was going to be returned in favor of an Intel Bad Axe 2 for myself. I bought it and it's already got an RMA number assigned for it.....and yes, I am taking the 15% restocking fee bite. Hey, I'm honest. I told 'em I just didn't like it and wanted to return it....never opened the static bag or any parts.....just the box.
So, have cpu and motherboard. Need RAM....hate the cost. See on the Hot Deal section that PNY has a 2GB set for $159 with a $60 MIR. Damn.....OOS!
This is incredibly too bad because last week, I bought a 2GB set of DDR2-800 Buffalo Firestix from Newegg.....which dropped in price by $40 24 hours after I purchased it. Hated that!!!
But, in an online chat with a Newegg CSR, they offered me $40 off my next purchase.
So, keep refreshing the memory page in hopes that they restock before the 2/23 estimated restock time posted there.
Finally, it reappears in stock. Buy at $159.99 + shipping. Call CSR. Price gets adjusted to $119 + shipping....making it $124.99.
Subtract the MIR of $60 and the price for 2GB of DDR2-667 RAM drops to $64.99! Not too bad....a C2D upgrade complete for under $200!
Sometimes life does work out.........and the wife will be happy!
Amen!
Anyone interested in a slightly used:
