Don't know if you read my previous post about Micro Center sending me an Intel E4300 cpu yesterday even after I cancelled the order a week ago and not being charged for it.....and their CSRs )multiple because I called twice!) refusing to take it back. It's somewhere lost in the mists of the posts from yesterday if you're interested..........

Anyway, I'm thinking this may be a good start to a new computer for the wife....she usually gets my "hand-me-downs" from my upgrading. She was going to inherit an Athlon 64 4000+ cpu, Asus A8N-SLI Deluxe motherboard, 2 x 1GB Corsair XMS PC4200 DDR RAM and a Seagate 160GB SATA hard drive on Friday after I get my new C2D system built.

Today, I get the rolling of the eyes and a big sigh about having to take my used stuff....never mind it's not too shabby.

Oh boy.....I know that look. So, better build something comparable to mine for her and FAST! Especially considering I have this cpu sitting here..........

So, I've got this "free" cpu. I've got a Gigabyte DS3, Ver. 3.3, motherboard that was going to be returned in favor of an Intel Bad Axe 2 for myself. I bought it and it's already got an RMA number assigned for it.....and yes, I am taking the 15% restocking fee bite. Hey, I'm honest. I told 'em I just didn't like it and wanted to return it....never opened the static bag or any parts.....just the box.

So, have cpu and motherboard. Need RAM....hate the cost. See on the Hot Deal section that PNY has a 2GB set for $159 with a $60 MIR. Damn.....OOS!

This is incredibly too bad because last week, I bought a 2GB set of DDR2-800 Buffalo Firestix from Newegg.....which dropped in price by $40 24 hours after I purchased it. Hated that!!!

But, in an online chat with a Newegg CSR, they offered me $40 off my next purchase.

So, keep refreshing the memory page in hopes that they restock before the 2/23 estimated restock time posted there.

Finally, it reappears in stock. Buy at $159.99 + shipping. Call CSR. Price gets adjusted to $119 + shipping....making it $124.99.

Subtract the MIR of $60 and the price for 2GB of DDR2-667 RAM drops to $64.99! Not too bad....a C2D upgrade complete for under $200!

Sometimes life does work out.........and the wife will be happy!

Amen!

Anyone interested in a slightly used:

Athlon 64 4000+ San Diego

Asus A8N-SLI Deluxe mb

2 x 1GB Corsair XMS PC-4200 DDR RAM

Zalman CNPS 9700 cpu cooler....the nickel plated AMD specific one w/the green LED

???

:)

Shouldn't your wife spend more time baking and less time worrying about her computer specs?

Are you that fk'ing sexist? I predict a long an unhappy single life for you, little boy, if you ever get any in the first place.

And just an FYI....my wife earned approx. $65K last year......and I do most of the cooking. I have a home based business and she works out in the real world. I like the arrangement and she does, too. Works for us.

An Athlon 64 4000+ with 2GB RAM is perfectly adequate for looking up recipes at BettyCrocker.com.

You know, I'd ask how old you are, but I know you can't count that high. Honestly, if you were twice as smart, you'd still be stupid. I know we all sprang from apes, but I guess you just didn't spring far enough. You realize there are two kinds of people in the world: cool people and you. I did hear, though, that your birth certificate is an apology from the condom factory. Now go wipe your snotty nose on somebody else's shirt....

Ease up a little, eh? This is atot after all. You can't possibly expect to post something here without getting a bunch of idiotic replies!

On a side note, you may want to get her a widescreen or maybe even dual monitors for multiple recipe viewing ! :D

You seem surprised to find out the majority does not care about the daily affairs of the Hancock household. Such naivete is generally associated with younger individuals. So how old are you?

See, you were way too giddy about this. ATOT was there for you to cut you back down to normal. Balance achieved.

lol @ trolls, wtg ATOT! :D :p

nice rig herbie, shame you won't be selling me that CPU, though ;)

Also I think the main thing, is everybody's wondering exactly what your wife's problem with the old components was, and what it is that she does on the computer that requires a core2 with 2gb?

Also, interested in trading that CPU and ram for some DDR2? ;)

Just a little defensive aren?t we?
You ripped off a cpu, built a computer and had to give it to your wife, then get angry when someone makes a joke. I?m thinking it?s you who needs to grow up.
