Score for Me!!!

So the company I work for decided to scrap one if our network labs because it was no longer needed and what's worse is they were just going to toss all of the equipment so I just made the score of a lifetime! Check it out!!

2 - Cisco Catalyst 2950's (24 port)
2 - Cisco 3620 Routers
1 - Cisco IDS-4215 Intrustion Detection System
1 - Cisco PIX 515E Firewall

Some of it is a little dated and the routers are both End-Of-Life but it's all in perfect working order and I was able to get them all reset to factory defaults! I'm not a Cisco guy but I've always wanted to learn more about their equipment. Now I've got stuff that I can break over and over again and actually do some hand's on!😀

I'm hoping this stuff will come in handy. I just recently became project manager over a new networking project that involves a lot of Cisco equipment so I'll be taking some of the certification courses very soon.

If anything I'm looking forward to having some work horse equpment to learn on.

Any good tutorial sites out there for learning the basics?

I sent you a pm xSauronx.

It is pretty tough to find some good basic tutorials online(ie free). The best I could do was use the CCNP Lab Portfolio Series (passed all my CCNP exams with it). It's a bit pricey, but I think it was decent for some practice. It does have some awful typos, but they're easy to spot.

If you got about ~$120 or a Safari account, check out Cisco Press's Routing TCP/IP, Volume 1 and 2. It's CCIE level for the depth that it goes, but even a beginner could read through the examples and follow along. A lot of the examples you can just take from the book and plug into your own equipment easily. For switches, you might want to ask spidey07, ScottMac, drebo or some the other guys for some good books or tutorial material.

You could also be daring and try something just to see if you can make it work, then trouble shoot it if it doesn't work. It's tough to be creative with labs because you don't build a network for the heck of it. You build a network to create connectivity and solve problems. It's not always easy to come up with a problem to solve. Good luck and sorry for the long post.
