I found this and it is REALLY hot. These types of enclosures usually go for $65 plus shipping, so for anyone out there willing to part with some money for extra performance, this it out there. It bridges a standard ATA hard drive to SATA and USB/Firewire.

If you hook it up with SATA, you will get full ATA speeds, and no CPU utilization as opposed to USB and Firewire. I just benched a IBM Deskstar 7k250 160GB 2mb cache at 56MB/s on SATA, slightly edging out a 15kRPM SCSI320 with SiSoft Sandra free version. Take that with a grain of salt, but that is damn hot to me.
Comes with a standard-ish round power plug, no on/off switch though. SATA cable is long, but not gigantic, so you may need something like this (~$8 shipped) to make full use of it. You can also get a dual one here for about $10.20 shipped with USPS Priority. If you want to save money, just leave it dangling out the back of your case.
Connectors: 2x6-pin Firewire400 1xUSB 2.0-B 1xRegular SATA connector
These can be safely disconnected on SATA if you remove it first with Device Manager and power cycle it before reconnecting it.
