Cliff's notes: Read the bolded text
If you order an item from Amazon and the price drops within 30 days, just goto this link:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/help/contact-us/returns-and-refunds.html/
1) pick "Refund Inquiry" from the dropdown list, click continue.
2) Then click "newer" or "older" until you find the order you did and pick ADD on the item that dropped in price, click continue.
3) Put a note in comments that the price dropped and you'd like a refund.
Bang its that easy. Takes all of 30 seconds of your time and you will get some money back if the item you ordered within 30 days is now cheaper on amazon than it was when you ordered. This is great for those items where amazon likes to play with the price a few times a week raising or lowering it a few bucks to find the sweet spot. Well everytime it goes lower, request a refund 🙂
I just did it for something that dropped a buck, so I'll report back here on how long it takes them to credit it.
Edit: Took just a few hours, I got an email saying they were going to credit my card with $2.02
Good quick way to save some moola. Out of 4 items I ordered in December, 3 of them are lower price, although one is just 1 cent cheaper. I wonder if I should try the 1 cent one now 🙂 3 out of 4 is good odds.
There's also a link I found that automatically notifies you if the price drops within 30 days for an item at amazon:
http://www.refundplease.com/
Note that you may want to give them a junk email addy since I dunno if they spam or not. . They only info they ask is the price and product number, date you purchased (so it can stop checking after 30 days), and an email so it can't hurt to try, no private info needed besides an email. I will be trying them myself for a few items I bought, if I get spam on the email I give them I'll let you know as well.
Edit The automatic notify finally sent me an email after a few days about the one item dropping in price. I'm guessing they only check once a day or 2 so its decent but not super great. But at least it will help you remember. No spam from them so far.
The ASIN number they need from non-books is listed under product details. Its also in the amazon link. For instance this link:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0001MQFV0
The ASIN product number is: B0001MQFV0
If all else fails, search through the webpage of the product for the term: ASIN
Update: Its been over a month now and no spam to the unique email I gave them. So they look legit. Plus they notified me on almost the 30th day of a last minute amazon price drop, so I was able to get $2 back from another order 🙂
Update 2: They added a privacy policy due to popular demand. It says they wont ever give it out to 3rd parties. And that if they ever do ads it will be by opt in.
Update 3: They changed URLs, I updated the link. I'll be trying them for half a dozen recent orders with another unique email, so as before, if I get any spam to that addy I'll update this post.
I spotted this tip on bluesnews, the initial info was from some bargaineering website. I took it a lot further though 🙂
