Scorching Amazon deal. Painless price drop refund within 30 days! (takes all of 30 seconds)

Cliff's notes: Read the bolded text

If you order an item from Amazon and the price drops within 30 days, just goto this link:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/help/contact-us/returns-and-refunds.html/
1) pick "Refund Inquiry" from the dropdown list, click continue.
2) Then click "newer" or "older" until you find the order you did and pick ADD on the item that dropped in price, click continue.
3) Put a note in comments that the price dropped and you'd like a refund.

Bang its that easy. Takes all of 30 seconds of your time
and you will get some money back if the item you ordered within 30 days is now cheaper on amazon than it was when you ordered. This is great for those items where amazon likes to play with the price a few times a week raising or lowering it a few bucks to find the sweet spot. Well everytime it goes lower, request a refund 🙂

I just did it for something that dropped a buck, so I'll report back here on how long it takes them to credit it.
Edit: Took just a few hours, I got an email saying they were going to credit my card with $2.02
Good quick way to save some moola. Out of 4 items I ordered in December, 3 of them are lower price, although one is just 1 cent cheaper. I wonder if I should try the 1 cent one now 🙂 3 out of 4 is good odds.

There's also a link I found that automatically notifies you if the price drops within 30 days for an item at amazon:
http://www.refundplease.com/
Note that you may want to give them a junk email addy since I dunno if they spam or not. . They only info they ask is the price and product number, date you purchased (so it can stop checking after 30 days), and an email so it can't hurt to try, no private info needed besides an email. I will be trying them myself for a few items I bought, if I get spam on the email I give them I'll let you know as well.
Edit The automatic notify finally sent me an email after a few days about the one item dropping in price. I'm guessing they only check once a day or 2 so its decent but not super great. But at least it will help you remember. No spam from them so far.
The ASIN number they need from non-books is listed under product details. Its also in the amazon link. For instance this link:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0001MQFV0
The ASIN product number is: B0001MQFV0
If all else fails, search through the webpage of the product for the term: ASIN
Update: Its been over a month now and no spam to the unique email I gave them. So they look legit. Plus they notified me on almost the 30th day of a last minute amazon price drop, so I was able to get $2 back from another order 🙂
Update 2: They added a privacy policy due to popular demand. It says they wont ever give it out to 3rd parties. And that if they ever do ads it will be by opt in.
Update 3: They changed URLs, I updated the link. I'll be trying them for half a dozen recent orders with another unique email, so as before, if I get any spam to that addy I'll update this post.

I spotted this tip on bluesnews, the initial info was from some bargaineering website. I took it a lot further though 🙂

Just got an email, only took a few hours
They are refunding me $2.02. I wonder if I should send in for that 1 cent refund as well since one item I ordered is $59.99 instead of $60.00 🙂

nice post tater..........no way i'd link to a price drop notify though 🙂

Well considering they dont ask for any private information out of you other than your email, and most people should have a spare spam email account by now, its worth the risk. I also am testing them, so I figured I'd link and put a disclaimer. I personally use spamgourmet.com which allows you to give a differant email addy to everyone. Example: bb.username@dfdg.net cusa.username@dfdg.net amzpricetest.username@dfdg.net
Then I can see if anyone starts spamming me on an address I've given out and if so I can block them from coming to me. It also gives me the bonus of knowing who sold me out. So far its been remarkable, no one has sold me out in the years since I've used gmail and spamgourmet. Either everyone has cleaned up thier act, (my hotmail is terribly spam infested), or almost no one gets email addys from merchants and forum signups.

Probably because the guy didn't title it very well, or explain it very well in his OP. He just linked it. Wheras I'm posting info from my personal experiance, I'm testing the stuff I'm saying, and posting lots of detail as well as additional links. If they lock mine up thats up to the mods. Personally I think its a hot deal though to get money back on amazon. Amazon (like newegg) sometimes likes to play those games of changing prices several time a week or even day if the item is on sale or popular to try and hit the best compromise of profit and popularity I've seen stuff fluctuate $5 or $10 before. This way you can order at your conveniance and bypass all thier games, and get the refunds to the lowest price (if you spot it in time) anyway. A ton of people on AT order from amazon, and I'm willing to bet the majority dont know about this and can get some money back from it as well. Out of 4 items I ordered in december, 2 of them are lower price. Thats pretty good odds 🙂

Okay, I just requested a refund of $1.60 on an item I ordered 28 days ago. I'll let you know if I get it.

UPDATE: Got it!
The discounts we offer for items on our web site do vary from time to
time. I've checked your order, and found that we now offer a greater
discount on "Trojan Elexa Vibrating Ring" than at the time you placed
your order.

Since this item was shipped so recently, I have requested a refund of
$1.6 to your credit card. This amount reflects the difference
between the price you were charged and the discounted price. The
refund should be processed in the next few days and will appear as a
credit on your next billing statement.

You may view returns and refunds by clicking the "Your Account" link
at the top of our web site, then clicking "Go!" next to "open and
recently shipped orders." Completed refunds will appear at the
bottom of an individual order's summary page.

I hope this solution is satisfactory. Thank you for shopping at
Amazon.com--we hope you will visit us again soon.

Thanks OP, this is a great deal.

Thank's for posting this OP.

I just put in for $10 🙂

😀 just got the email!!

"Since this item was shipped so recently, I have requested two refunds of $5.00 each (total $10.00) to your credit card. This amount reflects the difference between the price you were charged and the discounted price. The refund should be processed in the next few days and will appear as a credit on your next billing statement."

Wowzers, thanks for the heads up. 1 of the 3 items i ordered dropped, but it dropped by 11.50! very nice ... always love money back in the pocket.

Ain't that the truth. I've been considering buying a Logitech MX3100 mouse/keyboard combo. I've got one already, and it's great. Amazon had it at $100 for the last two or three months, at least. Today I found it on their Clearance "Sale" -- they increased the price to $125. Such a deal! NOT.

Thnaks to the OP. Maybe we can use their pricing games to our advantage.

There was a MX3000 combo at radio shack for $30 AR but I think its expired now. Dunno what the diff is between MX3000 and MX3100 combo.

The price dropped on the partition magic I ordered that was free after rebates, JUST before the 30 days were up. They gave me a $2 refund. So now I'm getting paid $2 to take the partition magic off thier hands 🙂

I'm glad I used that 3rd party email notification, no spam to the unique email I gave them, and I would have forgotten to check, let alone check on very last day.

I bought a 32" LCD TV on Feb 11, 2006 from Amazon.com. The price dropped $19.78, so I wrote an e-mail to Amazon on Monday March 13, 2006 requesting a refund for that amount. The same day I received this e-mail from Amazon:

"Thank you for writing to Amazon.com.

The discounts we offer for items on our web site do vary from time
to time. I've checked your order, and found that we now offer a
greater discount on the [LCD TV] than at the time you placed your order.

Since this item was shipped so recently, I have requested a refund
of $19.78 to your credit card. "

Later that day I received an e-mail confirmation that the $19.78 had been credited back to my debit card.

Thanks OP, This worked out great! Amazon.com issued a refund even though it over the 30 day mark.

Attention moderators: This should get a sticky since it is a perpetual hot deal. I saved over $50 in the past three months from this refund policy.

Huge thanks to the OP!!!!

I just got $22.50 back on an order that I placed January 25th.

I submitted the form yesterday, basically said "Hey I noticed this price has dropped quite a bit, am I eligible for any refund?"

For those too lazy to do the math that's almost exactly SEVEN WEEKS since I placed the order.

Awesome.
