So I'm just under a mile from my office, and leave around 6pm and want to catch the 6:30 train. The cost of cabs is pretty ridiculous. If I get a scooter...
www.xootr.com has some nice ones, and it will pay for itself in about two months of use...

Anyone's personal experiences? Suggestions? Keep in mind, I need to be able to carry it on the train, otherwise, I would definitely vote for a mountain bike....but I think the hastle might be a bit too much....

i mean im about 30miles from work, and its chicago. driving is like hell. will take me, aprox twice as long to get there.

I train to downtown, then the office is just under a mile from the station is what i meant to say above

ok, that makes more sense. It sounded like you lived less than a mile away.

Outside of a scooter, a foldable bike but the distance and time riding wouldn't be worth the cost and effort. I see a scooter in your future!

yeah i just started so timing is key. I figure one mile and 30min to spare in case of stop lights? I feel like thats pushing it walking. ??? Or am I crazy? I walked it the other day. Train came in around 9:25ish, got to the office at like 950ish. so i think thats kind of close.

I'd think you could make it in time if walking at a decent pace. But if you're going to get the scooter, find out where you can ride it first. I wouldn't be surprised if you're not allowed to ride it on the sidewalk, and I'm guessing you don't want to ride it on the street.

Another option is to run. Bring a back-up and set of running clothes. I used to live a couple of miles from work and alternated between riding my bike or taking the subway in and running home.
