"For example, the bacteria could be capable of absorbing carbon monoxide, a possible solution to global warming"

How could someone with so many diplomas be so dumb?
a) carbon DIOXIDE is thought to be contributing to global warming.
b) everything we pump into the air is released from the earth, and not coming back. certainly not in a permanent manner.
c) GMOs and the like will kill us all anyway.

Craig Venter, the genetics specialist who spearheaded the landmark breakthrough and heads the J. Craig Venter Institute in Rockville, Md., where the research was conducted, said the new species could lead to new energy sources and new methods for combatting global warming.

I was expecting him to say it was a new avenue for cancer research... or a possible way to combat MD... or diabeties...

Global warming? WTF?

If you say it can combat global warming, you get bigger research grants.

If for example, you are developing a higher efficacy painkiller, instead of saying "relieves pain", you say "relieves pain and global warming"

Fear is the new economic engine for U.S. leadership.

It gives carte blanche to spend trillions on a false war and everyone happy about it.

You should feel safe, don't you?

Sorry, I didn't know. People do get scared of stuff like miniature black holes and such. (Nevermind that those black holes are dwarfed by a proton.)
Thanks for the beer, but I just baked some chocolate chip cookies. Beer just doesn't go well with them.:)

This one time, at band camp, I opened a jar of peanut butter, and a freakin alien flew out of it.
