Memory chips become popular, people get addicted to them since once you remove them you're left feeling "lost", and "actors" who are hired to record their memories for retail end up leaking hidden thoughts and feelings onto the recording, so eventually you end up with thought pollution. Imagine a new popular chip series having background schizophrenia accidentally saved to it.

Can you imagine downloading a skill, such as playing guitar or race car driving, and actually going out and using it?

This is a pipe dream though, this would level the playing field to much our puppet masters would never allow it. (except for themselves of course)

That is assuming memories are easily interchangeable/writable. Just being able to store memory is a long way from being actually able to interpret it. Heck, computers are data storing monsters, yet they are still dumber than lobotomized cockroaches.

Basically - they created a device [you'd wear on your head] that recorded your thoughts/feelings/site of whatever you are doing. Someone who wants to experience the same thing would just wear the device and experience everything.

Someone took it one step further and recorded their sexual encounter. One of the scientists then modified the recording so it would loop over and over just before and during climax. They found him in his basement "worn out". 😀

Another scientist recorded her death. One of the other scientists switched off the emotion part of the device so he could see what death was like.

Amazing. Hope they get it all worked out. Imagine being able to license your CCIE for $10,000 a year. Plug it in and away you go. Stop paying the fees, they flip the switch. Still want it? Going to trust your brain to the torrented CCIE? Its one thing to run pirated software on your PC but how about your brain?

It would be great even if the chip can only be "taught" with the brain it's implanted in. Being able to create a stable long-term memory of something with only one read-through would be an immense advantage. (Hopefully these things will have either an efficient compression scheme, or lots of storage space. 🙂)

Well, if your brain is the only thing that can interpret it, and it shares no structure with anyone else's memory, you've essentially made a one time pad.

I'm interested to know how you would be able to identify that "yes, this memory is being stored to chip"

I'm especially interested to see what happens when you do swap chips. Do the memories just get overwritten? or does your mind try to interpret them? Perhaps it will just give you a memory of the craziest drug trip you've never experienced.

😀. It would be amazing to see what we could store and what that data looks like when plugged into a computer. Heck, this does potentially open the gateway for absolute "brain->computer" interfaces. If they get to the point where they can transfer data to the brain, The first thing I'm doing is downloading the wikipedia 😀.

Not if they can identify it early and give you chip. Some but hedge their bet and take one if if they aren't at risk. Then if you ever need it, it's there.

I don't think you would be able to swap since each brain probably has its own pattern for storage. Maybe it's possible to create a translator.

Maybe, it depends on how hard it is to create memories. If it is an easy process that isn't too different from person to person, then yes, I agree with you. The ability to basically give everyone a full education and training in anything is huge.

If it only can store stuff, then it is ok. It may mean better memory for everyone which could possibly shorten the education system significantly. Creativity would become the new job currency as education would be much cheaper.
