I've never used a bowflex....is it actually better or = or worse than the systems with metal weights?

I would say worse because of the resistance training factor of the metal weight system.

It really depends. There are those who say metal weights are superior to any machine, and they're probably right. But I've never seen any real evidence of how much worse because I've used/owned a bowflex before and I thought there were numerous advantages (for me, of course) including safety, no need for a spotter, and convenience (I bought an adjustable weight set before, and I thought changing the plates sucked.)

You're still getting a workout and a pretty darn good one at that. Maybe not as perfect as one done with free weights.

I think the bowflex is great for what it is. a at home gym that is EASY and safe to use. it comes with instructions for all the moves the machine has. and it doesnt take up a ton of room

But if you are hardcore on getting a "buff" body, i dont see why you would consider the bowflex anyway

I use free weights at home.. and a couple of time it nearly killed me... no spotter... I was going to get this, it was affordable but I end up at the gym .. so no spotter - get this.. have spotter.. dont get it.

When you're done with yours and it's only a coat rack, I'll buy it from you for 1/2 price.

BTW the price is 399 and the "free" 49$ mat costs $69
