I  Canadian ISPs: they don't sell out their customers to the CRIA (Canadian RIAA), they give us blazing fast internet and they don't screw us on rates. Videotron is my ISP, btw

lol, I just posted 3 days ago about my ISP in NJ boosting the speed. Must be an epidemic. Maybe more people are switching over to broadband?

No, it's because the cable companies have to give SOMETHING back for the insane amount of money they're hiking the prices up to every few months.

Write an e mail to their customer service division. Doesn't hurt.

lol. Yeah, we pay over 110 dollars a month for cable tv and internet. But I can't complain. The network is always up and never slows down. And we get over 100 channels of digital cable plus 5 HBOs. We live in a spoiled country, come on ;)

I've had 3 Mbps for awhile now, they just boosted me to 4.1M/800k, can't complain about that for CDN $38/month. The only problem is that there is a rather low cap (20G down/10G up), you have to pay for the next grade of service for unlimited downloads/uploads. Anyways, I never even come close to the cap so it's not a problem.

hahahaha, yeah that's part of the upgrade, the package just had their logo on it. Inside there were some pills and a letter that said "get sh!t done even faster now! We've taken the liberty to upgrade your internet service at no charge and provide a complimentary trial portion of our new line of pharmaceuticals"

Ya, I have Shaw too. It does suck. But, doesn't it seem like it was way faster when Videon was around? Damnit, Shaw bought Videon out, then went bankrupt - or something like that. I think I will write a letter.

Now, I don't want to seem like a n00b but, when you say 20G down/10G up what do you mean? I have an idea but, I'm not sure.

Right. Now since I don't P2P that much and I only game online once in awhile (although my brother does play a good amount of Warcraft 3 online), 20G/10G is fine for my purposes. If I needed more, I'd get the more expensive unlimited service (CDN ~$50/month, I think).

Wish they had that over here on the west coast :(
Shaw has hidden limits (~20Gb combined up/down)
I pay $35 right now and I'd gladly pay $50 for unlimited.

Thanks for confirming what I thought but, that's per month, right? I mean, that in a year would be just downrighty nutty. Oh, and does anyone know the bandwidth limits for the Shaw Total Home Package?

Yes, the 20GB down / 10GB up is monthly.

Pfft. You want sh1t internet my friends, try New Zealand. I love this place...but damn....it aint a place for internet junkies. 256k dsl is about US$45 a month with a 10 gig cap...and the "installation fee" is usually around $150 bucks as well.

And that's a new "deal". A few months back it was the same for 128k "broadband". Their argument is that we are in the middle of nowhere and have to pay a lot for overseas data. Perhaps true, but how come places like Hawaii have much better deals?

I had just remembered, the last time I re-installed Steam, I went to the network activity monitor. I noticed that at one time, I was downloading data at 2.1mb/s. I suppose I don't see all the bandwidth I'm paying for because most servers can't handle that kind of bandwidth for each user.
