I read an article yesterday where a student had the Fresh Prince of Bel Air theme song as his voice mail message. A person misheard the line "shooting b-ball outside of school" as "shooting people outside of school". It resulted in the school being on lockdown for thirty minutes and the student being detained for three hours.

I wonder if it's paranoia, stupidity or a bit of both?

I cant wait until the ban assault pastries :D

Seriously though, how is this acceptable? The kid had a pastry, he said bang bang, and yet they suspended him for "threatening" kids?

I guess cops and robbers is banned? I remember my friends and I running around the playground at recess pretending to shoot each other all the time. Funny how all of us wanted to be the good guys and none of us grew up to be murderers.

They call them "zero tolerance policies".

I call them "zero intelligence policies".

Not only because they lead to stupid incidents like this one, but because they are specifically designed to remove any thought and judgment from assessing incidents. The whole idea seems to be to make school administrators into robots that just react to everything the same way.
