When the zombie apocalypse happens, these kids are screwed.

https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/20...anned-even-touching-snow-headteacher-accused/

A headmaster who has banned pupils at his school from touching the snow has been branded a "snowflake".

Ges Smith, from the Jo Richardson Community School in Dagenham, East London, appeared on Good Morning Britain to defend the rule.

While some schools have banned snowball fights, his appears to be the only one which has banned touching snow altogether.

Mr Smith said the ban was a "duty of care issue", as snow swept the country.

He explained: "It only takes one student, one piece of grit, one stone in a snowball in an eye, with an injury and we change our view".

Presenter Susanna Reid challenged him, saying: "It’s only a bit of fun, let us throw a snowball."

He replied: "If it was that simple, I’d let them throw snowballs all day long."

The headteacher claimed that playing in the snow leaves children wet and "unfit for school", and said: “The rules are don’t touch the snow. If you don’t touch the snow you’re not going to throw it.”

Piers Morgan said the school would produce children "unprepared for normal life" if they were forced to abide by such rules.

Mr Smith defended his choices, and said he was protecting the school from a lawsuit.

Aw, those poor kids have to wait until after school to have snowball fights and touch snow? Life can be so fucking hard sometimes.

Lol that's freaking ridiculous. Reminds me of this one principal we had for a few years at a school I went to, she was super nazi like that too. We were not allowed to go on the snow hills, or slide etc. Which is basically like the main activity school kids will typically do at recess if they arn't playing hockey.

Part of the issue is liability BS though. That is getting worse and worse. Back then it was not as bad as it is now, but it was still there.

Couldn't they have school vetted snow appropriately filter through screens? Have their parents sign a release to be issued vouchers for an allocated amount of snow.

I was about to join the rage machine until I tried to recall a time at school when we were let outside to play during winter.
Nope. We weren't allowed to play in the snow either.

So is the rule in place when the kids arrive at school?
If the guy is saying "no messing round in the snow while you are waiting to be let in" then that's understandable to anyone who has had to walk on wet linoleum floor. 100s of wet kids dragging in snow through the entrance of the building creates headaches.
F'that.

Are the kids being let out to play in the snow during recess? Are they allowed out in the rain too?
That's just weird. I went to elementary in late 70's an 80's. That was back when they gave asbestos cigarettes for good grades all math had to be done using rocks and the sun. A lawsuit was something a lawyer wore to work and 2 miles was "walkin distance" to school. Walking in lava I might add. Cuz disco.
I simply do not remember recess being an all weather thing.

I guess what I'm saying as an old "heartless bastard" is, I'd tell those bastards to stay out of the snow too. Creates extra work cleaning up the floors and is inviting a slip and fall for teachers or visiting adults.
You f'ers can play in the snow...but you can't come back into the school.

Wait, were they bringing snow INSIDE the school? Yeah that's different lol. But when I was a kid, playing outside in the snow was pretty much part of childhood. Sliding down hills, digging tunnels, building snow forts etc.

It,s understandable...snow is uber-dangerous stuff. Not as dangerous as that super-slippery southern ice, but still..... :p

I think it's an alright rule. They can play when they get home. Snow is basically just as bad as water on clothes....the wet clothes statement is probably the most compelling reason to ban interaction with the snow. It's the main reason I tell my kids not to play in it after a big snow...I don't want to have to deal with getting them cleaned up.

Wait, what? So you're like the principal, but at home? Kids are supposed to play in the snow! Who cares if their clothes get wet, is that really more important?

I'm a parent. I make sure my kids are properly dressed before I let them go out in the snow. I also make sure they don't track snow and mud through my house...which they would do if I didn't have them clean off in the garage. They can play, just on my terms....btw....I'm the fun parent.

All this talk of snow gives me a sudden urge to go tobogganing now. As a kid I always wanted to do it off a roof but never exactly got that opportunity. But I'm an adult now and I can do what I damn well please. BRB.

I'll be back to post how that went, hopefully the ER has good wifi.

I don't think they get much snow in England. Me and the kids would be playing hookie and having fun in the snow. There's plenty of time for school later.
