School Zones...

I teach at a middle school and I get there pretty early, 6:30. I have started noticing police officers parked on the side streets waiting to nab people going through the school zones. Here is my question, what times by law do school zones need to be adhered to? I have seen police as early as 6:15 waiting to bust people. School starts at 8:15 and I thought school zones are enforced an hour before and an hour after school. What if the guy forgets to take the sign down? Do you have to go 15 mph through there at 3:00 in the morning? Obviously not so exactly what is the law? I'm all for protecting the safety of kids but busting people at 6:15-6:30 just seems like the city is trying to make an extra buck or two.

I am not really sure but a friend of mine got a ticket at 2:00 Am in a school zone for going 4 mph faster than the speed limit.

the signs in texas have the times when the zone is in effect.

Here, they have signs that automatically start flashing at the appropriate times. They stop flashing when it's time to stop. No hassle, no muss, no fuss.
