School upgraded our network, now Firefox won't connect....

Not exactally sure what they did, but they were having some network failures last week so they upgraded some of their equiptment.

Yesterday, we got an email that in order to connect to the new network, to set IE (via Tools/Options) to Automatically Detect Settings. Restarted IE and it connected up just fine.

Firefox on the other hand, even after changing the settings accordingly, will not connect. Tried unchecking it, restarting, then rechecking it, no go. Uninstalling/Reinstalling didn't help either.

Any ideas?

They must be using some kind of IE only script.

I'd email them and tell them it's broke, and that you don't want to open up their network to exploits/bugs by having to use IE.

When you set IE to automatically detect settings, its looking for a proxy server. You probably need to find that proxy information and enter it into Firefox manually.

Tools > Options > General > Connection Settings.

I couldnt say for sure. The best way would be to ask them I guess.

I dont not how else to do it. You could try and be sneaky and do a netstat -a once your browsing with IE and see what your connected to and figure out if one of those IPs is your proxy...

I'd say just ask IT

If IE caches the information in a place where you can view it:
Tools > Options > Connections > LAN Settings should have it. But I doubt it caches that stuff there.

You rock, was right there in Netstat, plugged it into Firefox and BAM, its working
