School Situation

Aimster

*Essay was due today in the morning

*Prof. wanted the essay to be handed in during class as well as it posted on an Internet site to check to see if it has been plagarized.

*I forgot to post it on the site but I went to class on time and turned in the essay

*Essay is worth 10% of grade and the prof said I am SOL for not posting it on the Internet site.

So is a ZERO justified?

you didn't follow the rules.

however i do have to say thats pretty crap and would be pissed myself anyway.

Take it to academic affairs and ask for an appeal or something, I don't think it is fair, but others will tell you to go DIAF cuz you didn't follow directions. Since your prof sounds like a hardass, I think you're screwed on this one.

I would dispute it. The act of posting it on the website does not count for the entire grade. If it did, you should get a 100% just for doing that.

You may not win, but it's not like he can take anymore points away.

You'd think posting things on the Internet would be second nature to those of us who post here. How did you manage to forget it? 😕

I turned it in anyways online hoping no prof. is that evil to give a student a ZERO simply for not turning something in on the Internet that takes 5 seconds.

Your prof. sounds like a real hard, follow-the-instructions-exactly kind of guy (kind I hate) so he's not going to make anything easy for you. Not, it's not justified, but I suppose what I say won't make a difference. Try bringing it up with someone higher than the Prof....... getting a zero on 10% of the grade is really going to mess you up. You might not get full credit for it, but a zero is completely unjustified.

Prof's class, prof's rules... but that's pretty lame IMO. I don't believe it is justified at all.

It is justified, but I've been in a very similar case, raised a bit of a reasonable case for myself with the professor himself and got it pushed through anyways.

You do not want to go over his head to a higher authority - they're not going to overrule him in favour of you when it's such small potatoes, and 90% of the time professors are kings in the fiefdom they call a lecture anyways.

I would talk to him about if you had computer problems he may let you slide. If you really want to make a big deal go to the department head or dean. Just make sure you never get this professor again.

All university has a computing lab. I highly doubt computer problems excuse will give him a break.

It would be if he does not live on campus.

Doesn't mean he doesn't have access to the labs.
He could've gotten to school 5-10 min early, go in the lab and upload it.
Since he said it takes like 5 sec.

Lying about it will only make things worse, especially if it is in an official appeals process.

Plus there's the whole on campus computer lab thing...

It's pretty obvious that you were aware of what the project consisted of beforehand. You did not complete the assignment so it's justified. What if he told you the paper had to be 10 pages and you only turned in 5? Would you expect to get points for making an effort? He's not a hardass just for making rules about his class that you chose not to follow.

Even if you were gonna be late to class, you should've uploaded it prior to getting to class.
Atleast then you would only have a Late on ur attendance, if they do mark that.

True but there may be some way such as file being corrupted after printout which would cause a valid excuse. Bottom line he did screw up. I would definitely see the professor on it and see if he wants a copy on disk. He should at least get 50% credit if it?s an A paper. BTW I am not telling him to lie I am just saying that there must be exceptions to rules.

Well did said Prof. give you any gradeing specs, like (project is worth 100 PTS so say 10% of the project is the internet crapolha and 90 is the actual essay and grammer and length and all that good stuffs.) becasue if he didnt do the afore mentioned he can just say well i was makeing the internet part 99% of the project and the actual essay 1% of the project. but i wold still dispute that like HELL. i would have been screaming in class becasue he did that to me, i probly would have ended up socking him in the FACE because when I get pissed like that i get REALLLY pissed.
